Homemade Pizza {With Extra for the Freezer}
How to Make Homemade Pizza
Here’s the recipe I used to make these pizzas (I tripled the recipe).

The instructions are for a large kitchen mixer, such as a Bosch (we’ve had our Bosch for over ten years now, and it’s still a favorite kitchen appliance).
Homemade Pizza Ingredients
- 2 cups hot water (110-120 degrees)
- 2 tsp. sugar (I use unrefined cane sugar)
- 1 tsp. sea salt
- 2 Tbsp. cooking oil (I used olive oil)
- 3 cups freshly milled wheat flour (or any whole wheat flour)
- 1 Tbsp. yeast (I use SAF yeast)
- Unbleached bread flour as needed
How to Make Homemade Pizza
- Mix first six ingredients together on momentary speed on Bosch Mixer to combine. Then add in unbleached bread flour, as needed 1 cup at a time, until mixer bowl sides are clean. You want a soft dough that is not sticky, but do not add in too much flour, which will make the dough heavy.
- Knead on a medium speed for 4 minutes.
- Let dough stand while you make the pizza sauce (recipe below) and prepare the toppings.
- Remove dough from mixer, divide, and press out onto two large greased baking sheets or pizza pans.
- Pre-bake the crusts for 8 minutes at 425 degrees. Then add the sauce and toppings.
- After adding the pizza sauce and toppings, bake pizzas at 425 degrees for 10-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
How Make Homemade Pizza Sauce
- 3 tsp. olive oil
- 1 cup onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups chunky tomato sauce
- 1–6 oz. can of tomato paste
- 1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
- pinch of oregano
- 2 tsp. sugar
- salt and pepper to taste
- Sauté the onion and garlic in a saucepan with the olive oil. Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Spread on top of pre-baked pizza crusts and add toppings. Then bake according to crust recipe above.
How to Freeze Homemade Pizza Crusts
I almost always make extra pizza crusts, pre-bake them, and freeze them. It makes having homemade pizza so easy!
To freeze the crusts, I just roll them out on the pan and pre-bake for 8 minutes at 425 degrees. After they cool, I remove them from the pan, wrap them with plastic wrap, and freeze.
When I am ready to use them, I just remove the crusts from the freezer (I make two at a time), put them each on a pizza pan, and let them sit on the counter while I make the sauce and prepare the toppings. I also preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
While I’m making the sauce and toppings, the crusts begin to thaw slightly. I then add sauce and toppings and bake them for 10-15 minutes at 425 degrees.
You take the most delicious looking food photos, Joy! Just looking at these is making me hungry. : ) What a great idea to freeze the pizza dough! I will definitely have to give that a try.
Thanks for linking to my post, too!
Thank you, Sarah! Your pizza dough/sauce is sooooo yummy!
This looks so yummy! I usually freeze the dough, but baking them ahead of time would make it much easier to toss together! Thanks for the great recipies!
Thank you, Jennifer!
Thanks for sharing your recipe! I allways make my own pizza dough, but i never pre-bake them. Now i can freeze them, i never knew how to do that 🙂 Greets, Marike (from the Netherlands)
You're welcome, Marike! If you try this recipe, I hope you like it! 🙂
I hope its ok. I printed your recipe off to try later..
It sounds lovely and with a family of eight I should have enough to feed them all, or save some for later too, the kids are always wanting to make pizza dough, I haven't made it for a long time so this recipe will be very handy. Thank you.
Yes, Nell, that's totally okay! I hope you enjoy it! 🙂

We make our own pizza too. So yummy!
I have one daughter gluten free and she uses Bob's Red Mill Pizza dough mix for hers.

That's a great idea on the Bob's Red Mill pizza dough! I have a recipe for almond flour pizza crust and also one made with cauliflower…but I haven't tried them yet.
Oh I love making homemade pizza!! Love my Bosch too! Aren't they the best? 🙂 Do you ever add fresh crushed garlic and herbs to your crusts? Sometimes we do if not fresh I'll add dry it adds a nice boost of flavor. 🙂 Glad you found this post and shared it. 🙂
Yes, I really love my Bosch! I've never added fresh garlic and herbs to the crust–thank you so much for suggesting that, Nabila Grace! I've put herbs and garlic on the toppings, but it never occurred to me to add it to the crust. 🙂
This looks so yummy Joy! We had plans of pizza for dinner tonight but plans changed. 🙂 I always make more and then just freeze the dough to make later. I just take the dough out a few hours before baking it. I also bake mine with the toppings on it. I don't have a Bosch so I make it in my Kitchen Aid or Bread machine. I used to make them in my mom's Bosch though. 🙂 I can't say this enough, I LOVE YOUR PICTURES!
Thanks, Tabitha! I wish we were having pizza tonight–it's my favorite meal (and I think it's the favorite meal of everyone here!).
Thank you SO MUCH for your sweet compliment on my pictures!! ♥
Hey Joy, You are back!
I am so happy to be able to follow along again and watch how your lovely family (in Christ) is doing.
Till your next post!
Love in Him
