Snowflake Week

* This was originally posted in December of 2010
There was a fierce wind blowing all night long.  And this morning we woke up to a little bit of snow (not as much as some of you probably have!)!
Ice crystals on the kitchen window.
Snow on the back porch.
I filled the book basket in the living room with all the snow-related books I could find (some haven’t been unpacked yet):
Our plan for this week includes making some paper snowflakes!  This is an annual tradition in our home, and I usually end up making most of them just because I love it!
The weather was getting colder yesterday, so here’s what we spent the morning doing:
Aren’t they B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L?!  I love making these, even though it is a lot of work for me (and I use the simple version with graham crackers instead of gingerbread).  While I was mixing the icing (which gets very, very stiff, in order to “glue” all the parts together), my hand-held mixer decided to die (it is about 13 years old!), so my oldest daughter and I took turns mixing it by hand.  I was beginning to think maybe all this effort wasn’t worth the trouble, but then I saw all their happy smiling faces and I changed my mind.  My youngest daughter even sang, “You’re the best mommy in the world, because you let us make gingerbread houses!”  It is always worth the extra effort required to make happy memories!  So this week we plan to make memories with snowflake activities!

  1. What a cute idea! I would have never thought to use my muffin pans for organizing the candy mess! I'm definitely using this idea this Christmas when we make our ginger bread houses ^_^
